1. Brush more than you think
Brushing is the number one thing. Brush in the morning, at night and during the day. Keep a mini brush in your purse or work bag. Matting starts at the nape, so give the back of your neck extra attention.
2. K-tips: finger comb the bonds
Run your fingers between the bonds to keep them separated as they grow out.
3. Wefts: wash between the rows
Clip up each weft and get in between the rows when you wash. Be gentle scrubbing your scalp so the outgrowth doesn’t tangle.
4. Contain it while you sleep
Sleep in a loose braid, a low pony or a bonnet. Tossing and turning puts tension on the sides and loosens the install, so the goal is to keep everything contained.
5. Keep them moisturized
Use oils, a leave-in conditioner and a mask now and then. Blonde extensions dry out the fastest, so if you went light, be generous with the ends.
6. Yes, you can work out
At your install I ask whether you pull your hair back, and whether it is a high or low pony. I place the rows around that answer, so your gym pony still works.
7. Come back on time
- Wefts: a move-up every 8 weeks.
- K-tips: a full reinstall after 3 to 5 months.
- The hair itself can be reused for up to 12 months with good care.
