It’s a teamwork effort
“I always think of it as a teamwork effort. I’m going to install them correctly and you’re going to take care of them correctly, and your natural hair is going to thrive.”Megan Hudgin
That is the honest answer. Extensions are not damaging when they are installed correctly and taken care of at home correctly. Skip either half and they can be.
My half: the install
- K-tip bonds made for you, matched to your density so the weight is spread evenly.
- Weft rows placed around how you wear your hair, high pony or low.
- Weft move-ups every 8 weeks, so they stay secure and clean as your hair grows.
- A full K-tip reinstall after 3 to 5 months.
- An in-person consultation first, to see whether extensions are right for your hair at all.
Your half: home care
Brushing is the number one thing. Morning, night and during the day. Matting starts at the nape, so that is where to brush most. With K-tips, finger comb between the bonds so they stay separate as they grow out. Sleep in a loose braid, a low pony or a bonnet, and keep the ends moisturized.
Extensions as a rest for your own hair
“I’ve had a lot of clients wear them for a short period of time to kind of rehab their own hair and then they take them out and their hair has grown a lot. I’ve experienced that myself.”Megan Hudgin
Results depend on your hair and your care, so we talk through what is realistic for you at the consultation.
