Meet Megan Hudgin
She grew up in a basement salon.
Megan’s mom did hair in a salon in their basement. Megan grew up playing with the rollers and the mannequin head, and cutting her own bangs. Twelve years into her own career, she still likes the whole transformation most: custom color into perfectly curated extensions.
Her path
- The start Trained at Paul Mitchell The School Chicago, then several assisting positions.
- Two years A color apprentice program at one of the Gold Coast’s top salons.
- 2020 Certified in hair extensions.
- Chicago Her first suite in Chicago, the moment lockdowns lifted.
- 2021 Moved to Houston, built a clientele on her own and worked for herself for three years.
- Back home Back home in Chicago, working part time to be home with her daughter.
- 2026 Her own studio, full time, in Suite 17 on State Street.
In the chair
One client at a time.
“I’m not somebody that thrives in a big group setting. So the one-on-one with a client at a time, I just do really well at.”
She has finer hair herself, and has worn extensions for more than ten years. “Adding hair has always made me feel good and confident.”
Her longest client has been with her for about 9 years. She followed Megan to her first Chicago suite, then also moved to Houston and kept seeing her there.
Out of the chair
A certified yoga teacher.
She is a certified yoga teacher who set it aside when her daughter was born, and would like to get back to it one day. She lifts weights, bakes, and has been taking cooking classes.
Most of all, she spends her time with her family and her two-year-old daughter.
